Hey First of all, i would like to say that i find the idea of a roleplaying forum in the world of thedas awesome!!! (myself being a huge fan of the bioware universe). I'm quite new to the world of forum roleplaying but i'm quite acquainted with roleplaying (D&D, Warhammer, Gurps and different Larp)
I have a few question, if you dont mind answering them
first, how much people are active on the forum?
Are the different story continue in some way (sequel and character progression) or do people just restart?
does the people managing the story include element from other story which could influence the?
How do you manage NPC interraction?
How do you manage the combat system?
Is there some kind of game master or is a totaly freestyle type of game?
Thanks you in advance
ps: Forgive me if my english is'nt perfect, for it is not my first language (i believe there is still room for improvement haha)
I'll direct you to our Site Links sidebar, as the links there should answer a lot of your questions.
We have 30+ active players on the forum, with many of them playing 2 or more characters.
The Warden's Vigil storyline began a little over a year after the happenings in the Dragon Age: Origins game, with Aedan Cousland as The Warden; key DA:O decisions and events that play a part in the WV universe can be found in the Wiki. No other Origins are permitted. In the 5+ years that the forums have been open, we have forged a path of our own, expanding in the last year or so to include DA2 settings and canon characters, but events in the WV universe will not exactly mirror DA2 canon. We have included some lore from Inquisition, but no canons apart from those that appeared earlier in the series, as the Inquisition timeline is still several years away from our current time In Character (IC).
No elements outside the Dragon Age series (such as Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, etc) are permitted.
NPC interactions are largely left to the players, though the moderating team will monitor to ensure consistency with lore and logic is maintained.
There is actually very little combat involved in our roleplay, and while we have players develop combat skills/spells in their character's profile, it is primarily used as a guide to what the character's capabilities are. Combat between two player characters relies upon communication between the players & the honor system in deciding who wins. Combat between a player character and an NPC simply must remain within the bounds of plausibility - no barely trained rookies taking out five guards.
The roleplay is largely freestyle. There are a few large-scale plot arcs being coordinated by the moderating team and other players, but within and separate from those are loads of smaller-scale plots that may be as simple as a single getting-to-know you thread between two characters. The moderating team keeps an eye on everything to ensure consistency with DA & WV lore, but with the exception of certain specific plots, there will seldom be a 'Game Master' type overseeing the action on a thread.
I hope that helps some. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact myself or one of the other moderating staff via PM, or check out our IRC Help Channel.
Cyn: No posts this weekend, sorry! It's D&D crunch time and I've gotta write half a campaign by noon tomorrow or I'm so very screwed

Hanamene Thornecroft: New to the game! Just wanted to say hello whilst I build my char profile. Any updates to the game's world state I ought to know about? In addition to the OOC info threads, I mean - i.e. active/major story-lines to consider. PM me for the latter.
