Revare has two great loves in his life: The forest and his sister. Like any of the Dalish, he thrives away from the Shemlen, in the shadows of trees and the cover of mountains, lost in the lull of the Aravel and the gentle moans of Halla. He is proud of his Dalish heritage and though he holds a distrust for all that isn’t Dalish, he doesn’t harbor the same hatred of them as most of his kind does. It is more curiosity and pity he carries. Despite that, Revare holds no remorse in getting more coin from the Shemlen. Coin has no power among the Dalish, but in the Shemlen world, it does. They have the power, the land, the past. Revare believes that if he can get enough coin from the Shemlen he can use it at their own game to preserve the forest or parts of it for his people, giving them their first true home. This type of thinking makes him a bit of a dreamer and rash in some of his decisions. And while that leads to many not great choices, his heart is in the right place. He just takes routes to get to that right place in ways that were more trouble than it was worth. But hey, it's all adventure to him!
Revare was born to two Hunters within the Boranehn Clan. His childhood was familiar typical as far as Dalish childhoods went. They traveled, never sticking to any one location for long, hunting to survive, seeking the lost truths of their ancestors and on occasion, trading with smaller and tolerant cities for goods they could not attain on their own. He started out his young life assuming he’d be a hunter much as his parents were, but as he got into the middle years of childhood, he began to accompany the Clan’s storyteller and learn from him all the old songs, tales and historical points one needed to know to remember. This never took the place of his training to be a Hunter, but it did distract him from time to time. His parents were honored in his choice, and neither kept him from this path.
That is until his sister was born. He was around 12 when his mother gave birth to his little sister, Noralle. His mother, in fact died birthing his sister. His father, though grief stricken, continued on to care for them both and often looked to Revare to aid in his sister’s upbringing as well as the rest of the clan. Revare loved his sister more than life itself and quickly dedicated himself to her survival. He gave up on learning the craft of the stories for his people to continue to be a Hunter, for them and for her. When Noralle was 3 and he 15, his father died in a hunt gone bad. From then on, Revare took sole care of his sister.
His 18th year on his hunt to becoming an Adult and earn his Vallaslin, he almost lost his life. He was hunting a wolf for his test and got attack by a great bear. The wolf got away and almost his own life, but in that, he won the battle. The Clan impressed by his resourcefulness, allowed the greater prize to be the gods word on his worthiness. He instead of a Hunter, became a protector for the clan and did get his Vallaslin. Two months after, his sister showed signs of magic and was taken in by the Clan’s keeper as her First. This only renewed Revare’s convictions to protect his sister and everyone else.
He focused his fighting skills on dueling to narrow the field and acted as a guard for those leaving the campsites for every reason. He wanted to be out in the world and started to pick up a curiosity in the Shemlen. He didn’t like them, but he knew the best way to get land was through them. If he could get land, his Clan could have a permanent home and his sister would be safe on a more permanent basis. Young dreams and foolish ideals. He has a small box of coins at their camp that he keeps as he collects them from odd jobs and trades with the Shemlen. He even too his skills from hunting to make better items to deal for. Anything to make the coin he thought necessary for land. If there was a way to make money, Revare wanted it if only to gather the wealth needed for his sister and his clan’s security.
The clan find his desires foolish but also passionate. Because of this desire to give them a home and a little bit of freedom, they often call him ris’revas, little freedom. Only sometimes is it used in a negative fashion. His desires are also how he was given his daggers, Vhenas and Vhenan. They are reminders of what he fights for, his heart and his home, a home for his people. His armor carries one enchantment given to him by their Keeper on request of Noralle as a means to give him some means of protection. For all his looking out for others, he often forgets to look after himself.
