She was glad to be back in Denerim. Not that Gwaren wasn't a nice place to visit, and the wedding had been a lovely affair, there were already plenty of regrets Kiley wanted to leave behind her there. She was still waiting on some information she needed before she could make her final move against her target for Arl Teagan. For now, it was a night to enjoy herself, and hopefully a friend would be joining her.
The plans were made hastily during the final days in Gwaren, a night on the town for food, a few drinks, and some laughs. She knew he wouldn't get blasted while they were out, but they could get into some harmless mischief if they were presented with the opportunity. She had even gone far enough to purchase him a gift, a nice wedge of stinky cheese wrapped tight to prevent its pungent odor from getting overbearing.
There were few people in her world outside Kiora that she trusted as much as Alistair. He brought out her better tendencies, and they genuinely enjoyed each others company. She hoped it would be some much needed normalcy back into her life, her head was clouded too much from her poor decision making over the past month.
She leaned against a wall, keeping her eyes out for the King in his guise as James. Such a plain fake name, it still made her grin. Plain, and had no connection to his real one. She held the wrapped package in one hand, the other hand resting on the hilt of one of her daggers to dissuade any thieves from thinking about approaching her.

Alistair was happy to finally be a married man, for a good number of reasons. It meant that a lot of people had to find new things to talk about, and really that was a change of pace he quite welcomed. Of course, for many that topic turned into stability, and he knew very well what that meant. Hopefully with Peter’s adoption, it would put at least some of that to rest. Although, that brought up yet another topic of discussion on the Thrilling Life of Alistair Theirin (someone really should make that a book).
Happier, still, was that being married did not have to change his entire life. He still kept some of his indulgences, such as they were, and he kept some of his private pleasures, just for that sense of normalcy it brought him. One of those little pleasures were his secret nights on the town. He was mostly sure they were still a secret, as far as any king could really have any secrets, but he wouldn’t be surprised if Constance at least knew of them. For his own amusement, she did not, as far as he was concerned, and it would stay that way until proven otherwise.
So, this night, after Alistair Theirin retired early for the evening, James slipped out of the castle through a servant’s entrance, quickly joined by James’ very good drinking buddy, Donal. Dressed down, way down, in casual, worn leathers, his hair a mess, and his face somewhat dirtied, they made their way for the palace wall.
Sure enough, as he knew she would be, was Lady Daire, her hands laden with some unidentified object, and a familiar gleam in her eyes. He had few people whom he could consider friends of Alistair rather than friends of the King. She was certainly the former, as well as the latter, but she also had the honor of being one of the few people who could call James a friend.
“I don’t normally do this,” he said by way of greeting which earned a sound from Donal, "but would you happen to know any pretty ladies, like yourself, who might be willing to act as a deterrent for other pretty ladies, like yourself, for the night?"

She noticed him coming before he said anything, and she almost laughed at how dressed down he actually was. Did he actually smear dirt on his face? Maker, she’d have to get out her makeup kit for him one day if he truly wanted to obscure his features. If he’d let her, though she had a feeling she might be able to convince him.
Donal was with him, and she gave the man a wink as they approached. She pushed off the wall, and tilted her head to the side when Alistair -- pardon, James -- started speaking, “I don’t normally do this, but would you happen to know any pretty ladies, like yourself, who might be willing to act as a deterrent for other pretty ladies, like yourself, for the night?"
She let out a soft laugh, but it was followed by a wicked gleam in her eye, “Perhaps myself will do? I can perform tricks, and even hiss at any woman who even thinks about getting close to you.”
She paused only briefly, “If such things are what you are looking for… James.”
Another wink, and she walked over to him giving him a half hug and a friendly kiss on the cheek making sure she avoided the dirt. “I’m glad I could join you for one of these outings while I’m still in Denerim. Will be like old times, no?”
She held out the package then, “For later, when you want to stink up your office.”

Donal had mixed feelings about the King continuing his incognito outings now that he was married. On the one hand, it was good that he was enjoying himself, but on the other, if any trouble arose on one of these forays, he had no illusions about exactly whose ass would be in the sling.
Still, the potential for trouble was limited. Donal had no concerns that he would need to explain any royal bastards to the Queen, because that was, quite simply, not what these outings were about. Alistair just wanted to sit and be an anonymous part of the crowd while he enjoyed a drink or two. Donal's real concerns were therefore limited to only 2 possibilities: that someone who wished the King ill might recognize him while he was out with only a single guard or that an incidental brawl might erupt at their location and Alistair get caught up in it, either accidentally or on purpose. Not that the King was a brawler by nature, but he was chivalrous to a fault, and his involvement in both brawls that had taken place on these outings to date had been in defense of some female's honor.
Fortunately, their female companionship tonight was both uninterested in being a notch on a royal bedpost and quite able to defend her own honor. And highly easy on the eyes, to boot.
“I don’t normally do this,” Alistair spoke up as they approached her just outside the palace wall, to which Donal coughed out a quick “bullshit”, “but would you happen to know any pretty ladies, like yourself, who might be willing to act as a deterrent for other pretty ladies, like yourself, for the night?"
Which was the other reason her presence was welcome. Royal or not, James was a good looking bloke, and he and Donal tended to garner female attention when they were out; even if it never got any farther than a drink or two (which it wouldn't), it still wouldn't look good, if it became known. Generally, they would go with the story that Donal was hiding out from a jealous wife to turn away dangerous company.
“Perhaps myself will do?” Kiley suggested with a laugh and a mischievous glint in her pretty green eyes. “I can perform tricks, and even hiss at any woman who even thinks about getting close to you. If such things are what you are looking for… James.”
“I'd pay to see it,” Donal remarked amiably. Kiley was just the type of girl he liked: pretty, fun loving and not interested in anything but a good time. He suspected that it wouldn't be a good enough time to make up for the beating he'd take in the practice yard from the man who viewed her as a younger sister, however. But then again, maybe it would?
“I’m glad I could join you for one of these outings while I’m still in Denerim,” Kiley told Alistair, giving him a sisterly hug and peck on the cheek. “Will be like old times, no?” She offered him the package she'd been holding. “For later, when you want to stink up your office.”
“Smelly cheese?” Donal gave her a pained look. “Have mercy, Lady Daire; some of us have to stay near him regardless of what his breath smells like.”
Cyn: No posts this weekend, sorry! It's D&D crunch time and I've gotta write half a campaign by noon tomorrow or I'm so very screwed
