Ser Farrell is a templar, through and through. He believes in protecting the people, he has an unshakeable faith in the Maker, and he blindly follows all of the Chantry's teachings. He distrusts magic and mages beyond reason, and when confronted with apostates who fight him at all, he is inclined to bring justice to them swiftly and brutally. His philosophy is to follow the Chantry's teachings to the letter and to assume the worst of any apostates he finds.
Ser Farrell was born and spent his early years in the Dragon's Peak bannorn. He was sent to the Chantry at the age of ten and excelled in his studies. He was an impressionable young boy, and he took to Chantry indoctrination like a duck takes to water.
When he was old enough, his piety as well as his physical size marked him as a potential templar so he continued his education as an initiate. He continued to exceed expectations in learning and following the Chant, and he trained as hard as he could in his weapons training.
Shortly after he took his vows and became a full templar, he began hunting apostates with more senior members of the order. He found that he fully enjoyed the work and doing the Maker's will by ensuring that the apostates were brought in to the Circle or, more frequently, killed to avoid the chance of abominations roaming the countryside. He saw a large number of maleficar over the years, which only strengthened his belief that he was ensuring the safety of the common man, and with every suspected maleficar cut down, he felt that he was one step closer to the Maker.
Many years passed, and as he continued to blindly follow his calling, he found himself moving up the ranks of the templar order. He was awarded a Knight-Captain position shortly before the fifth Blight in recognition for his dedication and service. This served to strengthen his resolve, and he began hunting apostates and maleficar with renewed vigor.
Throughout the Blight and after, he found many more abominations and maleficar during his travels throughout Ferelden. He leads groups of templars on apostate hunts throughout Ferelden and deals with the illegal mages swiftly and brutally. After all, he is doing the Maker's work, or so he believes.
